During the 1930’s, the recognised professionalism of the craftsmen of La Permanente Mobili, which based its work predominantly on the imitation of past styles, brought to Cantù extraordinary exponents of the architectural culture of Italy and other countries, with which the association was able to compare and renew itself, thanks to important projects that were formally very different from those that had previously been realised. These projects led to the formation of lasting collaborations that would give rise to glorious initiatives such as the Selective Furniture Exhibitions, events that contributed to Cantù’s becoming a centre of international design.
